Catholic Professionals hold May Day fun games

Hundreds of Catholic Professionals on May Day gathered at St. Aquinas Senior High School at Cantonments in Accra, to socialise, network, build and establish business links in an environment of fun and sporting activities. The event, the third in the series, was under the auspices of Most Rev. Charles Palmer-Buckle, Archbishop of Accra, and in conjunction with the Old students of Aquinas (Old Toms). Sponsored by the Daily Graphic, The Catholic Standard, Treasure Maks Design and Print and Events Help, it offered the opportunity to Catholics in Business to showcase their products and services, among them was Quality Life Assurance Company The Professionals and Old Toms participated in various games including Soccer, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Ludo, Playing Cards and Oware with the Old Toms winning most of them. Participating Guilds included Health Professionals, Catholic Media Practitioners, Lawyers Guild, Finance Professionals, Engineers and Architects Guild, Security Professionals Guild, Creative Arts Professionals Guild, Hospitality Professionals Guild, HR and Management Professionals, Association of Catholic Teachers, I.T. Professionals, Artisans, Body, Grooming and Fitness Professionals. Archbishop Palmer-Buckle, who opened the games with a kick of football, urged Catholic Professionals to let their light shine wherever they found themselves, commending the organisers for the initiative of bringing them together through sports. He reminded the Professionals that their professions were gifts and vocations from God and they had to sharpen, safeguard and protect them. He noted that events like the May Day games were healthy activities which should challenge the professionals to be ready to give off their best to the Church and at their various work places. The Archbishop stated that May Day was a time to show appreciation for the gift of workers who have contributed to the growth and development of the nation. Mr. Edward Kwame Ayem, Co-ordinator of the Guilds said the fun games and business fair, were some of the activities put in place to bring together all Catholic professionals to understand their role because the time had come “for us to sit up and make our presence felt in the Church.” “The time is now when we bring our expertise and partner our Pastors to build the Church,” he added, calling on Catholic professionals to involve themselves in the activities of their various Guilds at their Parishes.
